Start with a morning in town
For coffee, Panacea Coffee House & Cafe is in Frog Level on Commerce Street. Start in Frog Level, then make your way to Main Street for browsing. Check its current opening hours before making it an early-start breakfast plan.
On Saturdays, Haywood’s Historic Farmers Market is at the HART Theatre parking lot, 250 Pigeon Street. Its published 2026 season runs April 4–December 12, 9 AM–noon. For a later spring, check that year's calendar. Pick up something for breakfast at the house and leave the rest of the morning open.
Choose a waterfall outing that suits your group
Our waterfall guide groups the options by route and walking effort. Soco Falls pairs naturally with Maggie Valley or Cherokee; Looking Glass Falls belongs to a Pisgah outing. They are different drives, so choose one corridor instead of trying to fit every waterfall into the same morning.
Rain can make a waterfall more dramatic while also making its approach less suitable. Use established viewing areas and decide based on footing and current conditions. Choose maintained paths and viewing platforms, with shoes suited to the ground.
Check the Parkway section you want to use
Spring does not mean the entire Blue Ridge Parkway has reopened. Weather, repairs and construction can affect different mileposts independently. Consult the National Park Service road-status page before routing a drive, including the access road to your chosen stop.
At Waterrock Knob, the visitor area and summit walk are different experiences. You can enjoy the outlook without taking on the steep, uneven summit path. Pack layers and have a lower-elevation alternative ready if the ridge is foggy.
Make wildlife viewing a patient outing
For a Smokies day, check current park access before choosing Cataloochee or the Cherokee side. Wildlife sightings and meadow access are never guaranteed. Follow NPS viewing guidance, bring binoculars and give animals space instead of approaching for a photograph.
Parking for more than 15 minutes generally requires a Smokies parking tag. Buy and display it as directed; it does not reserve a space. Leave room in the day for the mountain approach, parking and an unhurried return.
Keep some of the weekend for the Manor
Mojo Manor is a modern cabin-style home in a residential Waynesville neighborhood, one mile from downtown. A stocked kitchen, game room, two living areas and private fenced backyard make a slower day part of the trip. Spend a day on the mountain roads, then return to the convenience of town.
