Mojo Manor fenced backyard - dog-friendly vacation rental in Waynesville NC

Finding a pet-friendly rental in Western NC isn't hard. Finding one that actually works well - fenced yard, dog-friendly trails within 20 minutes, a host who isn't going to hit you with a surprise $150 pet fee on checkout - that's harder.

What to Actually Look For in a Pet-Friendly Rental

Most "pet-friendly" listings mean we allow small dogs under 25 lbs on the first floor only. That's not wrong. It's just not what most dog owners mean by pet-friendly.

The things that actually matter:

A fenced yard. Not a porch. Not a deck. A yard where your dog can be off-leash without you standing there watching them sniff every inch. If the listing doesn't say "fully fenced," it's probably not fenced.

No per-night pet fees. Vacation rental platforms add $25 to $50 per night for pets automatically. Book direct with the host and a lot of that goes away.

Trails nearby that actually allow dogs. Western NC has hundreds of miles of trail, but not all of it allows dogs. You want confirmed dog-friendly access within a reasonable drive, not a 90-minute detour.

Why Mojo Manor Works for Travelers With Dogs

The backyard at Mojo Manor is 8-foot privacy fenced. Not "mostly enclosed" - fully fenced, private, no sight lines to the road. Our guests with dogs use it constantly. The dogs run. The owners relax.

One flat pet fee covers your stay regardless of trip length. No per-night markup.

The house sleeps 10, which works for the group trip where half the people are dog people and half just tolerate dogs. The fenced yard keeps the dogs happy. The game room keeps everyone else busy.

Dog-Friendly Trails Near Waynesville, NC

Within 30 minutes of Mojo Manor:

Soco Falls - 20 minutes. Twin waterfalls, easy walk from the parking area, dogs allowed on leash. Spring and early summer are best when water volume is high. Free, no permit.

Lake Junaluska Loop - 10 minutes. A 3-mile paved loop around the lake. Dogs on leash. Smooth surface, good for morning walks or older dogs who don't love rough terrain.

Cataloochee Valley - 45 minutes. Leashed dogs are welcome on the valley roads and meadow edges. Early morning is best - you'll almost always see elk if you're quiet and patient. Keep distance. The elk calves start appearing in late April.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park - 30 minutes to the park boundary. Worth knowing: GSMNP rules restrict dogs to paved surfaces only - no backcountry trails. For off-trail hiking with your dog, stay on the WNC national forest side of the border where the rules are more flexible.

Book Direct - No Platform Markup

Most vacation rental platforms stack their own pet surcharges on top of the host fee. When you book Mojo Manor directly, you deal with us. No markup, no checkout surprises.
